Bihar School of Yoga Tradition

Bihar School of Yoga Tradition was established by Swami Satyananda Saraswati in 1963, as the first modern Yoga system. The Yoga techniques developed at Bihar School of Yoga are a synthesis of many approaches to personal development, based on traditional vedantic, tantric and yogic teachings in conjunction with contemporary physical and mental health sciences.
Although heavily based on the ancient yoga systems of Hatha Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga, Bihar Yoga is highly adaptable to the individual needs of its practitioners.
“Yoga is complete life. It is a method which overhauls every aspect of the human nature. Yoga shows you the way.”
- Sri Swami Sivananda
In fact, how one person experiences this yoga system will be different from another’s, because the yoga practices depend on each person’s individual needs and requirements – whether physical, mental or spiritual. This system actively works to create and maintain a balance between the body and the mind. It allows for aspirants to rediscover themselves in yoga, improving on those aspects of life they wish to improve, without any drastic lifestyle change.

Blessing to Yoga
Like the rays of the moon
The light of yoga is expanding.
All religions, beliefs and sects
Are receiving shelter
Under the kalpataru of yoga.
Towards the evolution of consciousness
Yoga has done unforgettable work.
Yoga will become tomorrow's culture
And will show
A new way of life for mankind.
